Meet the Artist
I have been an artist for many years, with my previous focuses being on creating jewelry, suncatchers and other crafts. I can honestly say my favorite form of creative expression is wheel throwing pottery. At first, I was nervous to try wheel throwing, because my work with clay had always been with hand building. I liked that I felt more in control of the process, but now, I can say I am happy I was “forced” to take a wheel throwing class. It’s taught me so much about letting go and accepting sometimes things just happen and it’s not going to be a perfect day in the studio.
But when it is…that is what makes all the effort and practice worthwhile!
Over the past 4 years so much has happened to put me here. I’m so grateful I get to be a full time artist and do what I love. I have been wheel throwing pottery since 2022. I cannot wait to see how much I will grow with this in the next 10 years! I hope you come along with me!
The fun of throwing marbled pottery
I spent 6 weeks really delving into the world of oxides and carbonates, mixing them into porcelain and seeing what goodies came out. I learned a lot. I learned that mixing different clay bodies surprisingly can fire well…even if the clear glaze ends up milky or crazes. Crazing the in the clay community means cracking. The kind you don’t want in something you will be eating off of or drinking out of. I also learned that india ink looks really amazing in those cracks that have now become decorative pieces. Then there are vases like this one…So happy I got to sell it to a wonderful man at the Food and Art Market in Rogers on August 10th, 2024!
